Simple Orange Smoothie
It’s time to get back to basics and load up on more fruits and veggies to battle the cold and flu bugs running amok. We all love and make green smoothies like this one on my blog: Simple Green Smoothie ; so fresh and nourishing. I’m making a batch every two to three days since I started blogging! Yay for me! Yay for my body that needs all those healing nutrients. I’m experimenting with new combinations like adding celery, cucumber, parsley, green grapes, kiwi, oranges etc to the basic recipe highlighted above.
Today, however, I’m going orange, and not just oranges. This beautiful smoothie is made with a bundle of orange/yellow fruits and vegetables and offers me an entire day’s worth of vitamins A and C, both heavy-duty antioxidants that fight cancer and inflammation. You’ll taste carrots, clementines, pineapple and mango. It’s a beautiful thing to drink and a beautiful thing to look at.
I’m using my new Vitamix blender which pulverizes everything into a smooth blend. I’m saying good-bye to my old Ninja blender; it served me well, but compared to the Vitamix, there is really no comparison. The beauty of blenders like Vitamix and Blendtec is that they blend so powerfully that you’re able to include the entire vegetable or fruit, skins and all. It is often within the skins and inner membranes of the plants that you find valuable nutrients, especially antioxidants and phytochemicals. If you buy a juicer that “spits out” those skins and pulp, you’ve wasted so much.
