High Protein Strawberry-Banana Smoothie

I’ve been playing “squirrel” lately by storing up summer’s plentiful fruits and vegetables for the winter.  I prefer freezing to canning, for one it’s easier and secondly freezing fruits and vegetables retains so much more of their nutritional values. Having frozen fruits on hand for smoothies like this one makes it so easy!  If you don’t have frozen fruits, you can use fresh, just be sure to add ice and reduce the fluid content of the recipe.

Smoothies are such an easy way to enjoy a quick healthy breakfast in the morning.  With the right combination of ingredients they can provide a balance of nutrients for your day’s activities.  I’ve been playing a lot of tennis in the mornings to avoid the 90 degree plus heat, so tasty smoothies with a scoop of whey protein powder meets my needs for energy (carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals), blood sugar control (protein and fiber), hydration (water) and transport of oxygen (protein and minerals).  Here’s a previous post for another quick healthy smoothie recipe:  Mother’s Day Morning Glory Protein Smoothie.
