Simple Peach Coconut Green Smoothie
I’m very inspired by Simple Green Smoothies, a super popular blog devoted to blending nature’s freshest ingredients into drinks that, when consumed regularly, insure we’re getting enough of our fruits and vegetables every day. Grocery stores produce departments are totally hopping on this trend by stocking shelves with bags and boxes of fresh spinach, spring mixes and kale leaves, all fundamental to making fresh green smoothies. In the frozen section you’ll find low-cost bags of frozen fruits all packaged without added sugar.
I’ve been making green smoothies for a long time, but have challenged myself to make them more often and with the help of oodles of ideas from the Simple Green Smoothies blog, it shouldn’t be hard. One of the easiest ways to get started is to prepare containers ahead with the ingredients you want to blend. I like this one with fresh or frozen peaches, grapes, spinach, a clementine and peeled lemon slices. I add coconut water, a little agave nectar (especially if the peaches are not sweet) and ice cubes for a superb recovery drink after hot yoga, spinning or other sweaty workout. I find that using red grapes turns it a little darker green versus blending green grapes, just in case you’re wondering why my drink looks so dark. It still tastes yummy!
I’ve created a few recipes of my own on the blog: Simple Green Smoothie, Simple Orange Smoothie, Simple Purple Protein Smoothie, High Protein Strawberry-Banana Smoothie and Pumpkin Protein Smoothie. However you put these together, you’ll bless your body with tons of nutrients, phytochemicals, antioxidants that fight the effects of aging and stress. Keep plenty of ingredients on hand so you can quickly throw one together when needed.
