Thanksgiving Side Dish Sampler 2016

thanksgiving-side-dish-sampler-2016-jpgMove over turkey and mashed potatoes.  It’s all about the side dishes, baby.  What else gives your plate the bright color, the memorable flavors, the vibrant nutritional value, the unique textures that make your Thanksgiving feast so unforgettable?   Scroll through the following fabulous side dishes I’ve shared right here on the blog over the last several years.  Let’s get started:

1)  Holiday Cranberry Salad – a Mangum family must-have.  My kids love this salad for both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

2)  Roasted Brussels Sprout and Cauliflower with Toasted Pecans and Bacon – reserved for the true vegetable lovers in your life.  Bacon deserves a place at the Thanksgiving table without any guilt.

3)  Fresh Herb Couscous Stuffing – I’ve been making this dish for many years much to the delight of Thanksgiving guests and family.  The traditional herbs and seasonings are so classic.

4)  Roasted Butternut Squash, Brown Rice and Quinoa Arugula Salad – natural, earthy, colorful and oh so nutritious.  The lemon oregano dressing pairs perfectly.

5)  Twice Baked Potato Casserole – a great make-ahead dish that’s loaded with all the fixings a potato deserves. This one goes fast so make enough for your big appetites.

6)  Citrus Green Beans with Almonds – rather than smothering green beans with rich and fatty cream, enjoy the simplicity of fresh orange juice, sauteed mushrooms, onions and sliced almonds.

7)  Kale and Quinoa Salad with Lemon Oregano Dressing – the combination of flavors in this beautiful dish may upstage even the turkey.  One of my favorite salads on the planet.

8)  Winter Squash Mash – the gorgeous orange color and rich flavors of the sweet potato and butternut squash are far more interesting to me than traditional white potatoes.  You won’t even need the gravy they’re that fantastic.

9)  Broccolini Summer Salad – there is no reason this salad can’t appear during fall’s most prestigious holiday.  This salad is all-season in my book.
